Individuals with all types of disabilities are encouraged to consider joining our team and explore our career opportunities.
Search JobsFor more than three decades, our approach to equal opportunity and diversity has not wavered. Our philosophy is rooted in promoting disability rights, the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
As a workplace, we understand that equal opportunity and diversity in employment, education and the delivery of health care are essential and must be furthered. This is a continuation of a policy that began with the hospital charters of 1865 and 1883, as well as the documents governing the establishment of Rush University in 1972.
Discrimination or harassment against any member of the Rush University Medical Center community (i.e., employee, faculty, house staff, student or patient) because of age, ancestry, color, disability as defined by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the ADA, gender, gender identity and/or expression, marital or parental status, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran’s status, or any other category protected by federal or state law is prohibited and will not be tolerated, nor will any person for those reasons be excluded from the participation in, or denied the benefits of, any program or activity within Rush University Medical Center or Rush University.
In certain instances, the implementation of this policy requires the use of affirmative action initiatives. At Rush, these are focused on strong recruitment and programming efforts — not on the use of quotas. Our recruitment and programming efforts will continue, consistent with federal, state and municipal guidelines.
Founded in 1991, the Rush Americans With Disabilities Act Task Force develops and implements policies for people with disabilities and educates the Rush community about accommodating people with disabilities as employees, students, faculty members and patients. The task force is composed of high-level administrators, faculty and students.

In 2018, Rush launched its Disabilities Employee Resource Group (ERG) to serve as a resource for both employees and Rush. Through activities, information and awareness, this ERG promotes inclusion and diversity in the workplace. Members of the Disabilities ERG may also help recruit and retain candidates with disabilities, serve as mentors to other employees with disabilities and provide peers and Rush with information and resources. Rush’s Disabilities ERG meets bimonthly and is open to all Rush employees, with and without physical/mental/sensory disabilities/chronic health conditions.
Rush recognized by Disability: IN and AAPD as a "Belst Place to work for disability inclusion" in 2019
